Carefree memories from my childhood of lying in the grass, searching for four leaf clovers and playing kick-the can with friends are imprinted on my heart and soul. From time to time I find myself revisiting these moments and smiling at the memories.

Life now isn’t as simple. As adults, our day to day can be busy and hectic. We are often pushed and pulled in many different directions. Demands, expectations and responsibilities can weigh on us, depleting our energy.  It can feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. It’s easy in our day to day to forget to make time for what matters…

October 11 is International Day of the Girl. On International Day of the Girl, I encourage you to make time to honour your inner child by slowing life’s pace down and tapping into the playful, joyous side of life. Joy is an emotion that connects us to our soul, so consider what brings you joy. How can you tap into your inner child as a way of healing and self-care? Whatever that looks like, whether it’s a specific activity, craft, or simply doing something just because, allow yourself to be fully engaged in that experience and open to what it has to offer.

Writing poetry, collaging and painting are creative endeavours that bring me joy and feed my heart and soul. Blending essential oils, planting herbs, or making a cup of peppermint and chamomile tea brings me joy. In these moments, as I am fully present, I am aware of the world around me with heightened senses, and open to healing, as I recharge and make space for myself to relax and rejuvenate.

Today and in the days to come, make space to embrace your inner child. Be intentional in tapping into the child-like essence inside of you that is joyful, creative, energetic, present, imaginative, curious and active. Nurture those aspects of your being, by making time for play, simply for the enjoyment of it. It is my hope that in doing so, you rekindle your sense of wonder and gratitude for the world around you, and that you benefit from a healthier mind, body and soul.
